About the Role

Toray Advanced Composites (TAC) is a leading supplier of advanced composite materials for the aerospace, sporting goods, motor sport and industrial markets. You will find our thermoset composite products on nearly every satellite, space launch vehicle, unmanned aircraft, military and commercial aircraft in production today. TAC also provides composites materials to industrial and recreational applications including mountain bikes, medical prosthetics and sports equipment.

Our thermoplastic prepregs, known in the industry as Cetex®, are found in a wide range of commercial and military aircraft, including large wing structures and interior applications like seats and galleys. Our Cetex products are available in unidirectional tape or fabric form in a variety of engineered thermoplastic resins including PEEK, PPS, PEI as well as a full line of performance thermoplastics including Nylon, PET, PC/ABS, HDPE, and PP.

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:

The Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist I is responsible for work in a wide range of EH&S disciplines. The ideal candidate will support the EHS programs with regard to EHS strategic goals and objectives. Passion for Environmental, Health and Safety; a strong desire to serve others in an EHS capacity, and work closely with the different people involved (employees, supervisors, technical staff, sub-contractors, etc.) in order to ensure safe working practices that comply with laws and standards.

MAJOR DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS:
Oversea hazardous waste management operations
Complete daily safety inspections (productions areas, labs, warehouse, shipping and receiving)
Weekly inspection for hazardous waste on satellite areas and track the hazardous waste manifests
Monthly inspections in the storm water and water sampling in the storm drains (4 events per year)
Work actively with the hazard waste minimization plan over Thermoset and Thermoplastic
Identify and mitigate environmental risks
Track and monitor programs for corrective actions regarding accident investigations
Identify risky behaviors within the organization and take appropriate action
Ensuring the wellbeing of employees in the workplace by providing employee safe working methods
Assist with ERT meetings and the Safety committee
Assist in writing and revising of facility EHS documentation
Conducts EHS-related training as needed (e.g., Hazcom, Hazardous Waste, different Safety topics, etc.)
Assist with annual update of Hazardous Material Business plan
Assist with Industrial hygiene as needed
Assist in developing new programs and procedures following OSHA, EPA and Company Guidelines


EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
High school or GED required, Associates degree in EHS discipline or relevant to safety is preferred
1 year of experience in EHS
Basic knowledge of CAL-OSHA regulations, EPA, HMBP, SWPPP and other related EHS regulations
Knowledge of Local, State and Federal regulatory agencies and requirements.
Practical, hands-on experience with the following: Electrical/High Voltage Safety, Compliance
Experience with emergency preparedness and crisis management
Manufacturing or composites experience preferred
Must be able to communicate clearly (written and verbally) in English
Comfortable interfacing and developing professional relationships with internal and external personnel
Maintain work areas in a neat, orderly and safe manner
Ability to solve practical problems and resolve issues effectively and efficiently.
Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Follow safety procedures for PPE (personal protection equipment)

PAY RANGE: $31.25 - $40.86 per hour
